Mumbai

Welcome to the city that never sleeps! Pulsating, Alive, On the Move, Vibrant, Fun -- this is Mumbai or as it is still frequently referred to -- Bombay. The most modern city in India, it captures the spirit of the changing pace set by liberalization and modernization. Once, a cluster of seven islands, Mumbai was presented to King Charles II in 1661 as part of the dowry when he married Princess Catherine de Braganza of Portugal. Over the years, as colonialism gave way to independence, Mumbai has transformed itself into an entity with thriving markets, business houses and many different communities reflecting a cosmopolitan and trendy atmosphere rarely seen elsewhere. On the surface, it represents the ever-changing face of today's India -- the old coupled with the dynamic new, and yet at its very core, the heart of the city is steeped in Indian customs and values.

Gateway of India

The Gateway of India was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary for the Delhi Durbar in 1911 when Delhi became capital of India. Situated at the Apollo Bunder, the gateway holds greater historical significance. The monument is complete with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone.

Mani Bhawan

Mani Bhawan or Gandhi memorial is used to be the Mumbai residence of Mahatma Gandhi. This two storied building houses a reference library with over 2000 books, a photo feature on the Mahatma's life, some memorabilia, an old Gandhiji's charkha and a film and recording archive

Marine Drive

Marine Drive is one of the best ways to discover Mumbai. This winding stretch of road extends from Nariman Point to Malabar Hills. It is also called as Queen’s Necklace because of its curvy shape and many street lights with sky scrapers on one side and Arabian Sea on other.

Juhu

Nicknamed as the uptown paradise, it is a place that attracts a large number of visitors throughout the year. Juhu beach is attractively studded with five star hotels offering the customers a splendid view of the coast. The beach remains overcrowded on weekends. The general beach activities like camel rides, pony rides, acrobats, performing monkeys and entertainers keep tourists enthralled all the time.

Hanging Gardens

This garden is built on the top of the Malabar Hills region and giving it a shape to make it resemble a terrace. This place gives a very beautiful view of the Arabian Sea especially during the time of the sunset.

Chowpatty

Another sandy attraction of Mumbai is the Chowpatty beach in the suburbs of the city. Chowpatty is perhaps the most famous beach of Mumbai, flooded by the usual hustle and bustle of roadside vendors, screaming kids, Ferris wheels, pony rides, wayside astrologers, monkey shows, Moreover, the bhelpuri shops and sometimes the film shoot or a street play also adds to the festive atmosphere of the beach.
